This third edition of Crisis Intervention and Counseling by Telephone and the Internet addresses many of the issues and nuances of providing crisis services over the Internet. The editors of the book have gathered the collective knowledge of twenty-six of the leaders in the field of crisis center work. This is an excellent handbook that will be very useful in training both volunteer and professional crisis workers. It begins by detailing the unique contribution of telephone therapy, which is sometime maligned as not as effective as face-to-face interventions. Contributors address some of the most problematic callers to the crisis line including obscene callers, chronic callers, the silent caller and the caller who is a nuisance. There are also chapters on special populations as adolescents, war veterans, the elderly and individuals with disabilities on campus. The most impressive part of this book are the chapters that deal with new technologies. Crisis centers today are finding that they need to be accessible to their clients, many of whom are using texting and chat rooms as their main avenue of communication. There is very little literature on this subject and this book fills this gap very well. The chapter on training by John Kalafat provides the reader with a valuable training tool. It includes a training overview, screening and engaging trainees, creating a learning community; training strategies, feedback strategies and actual role play scripts. Since many crisis centers are staffed primarily by volunteers who may have limited crisis work this chapter is an invaluable tool for supervisors and trainers. The book s appendix includes a model for helping trainers identify the behaviors that affect the learning climate, a personal problems exercise, and an opening exercise. These are excellent tools for helping the trainee to conceptualize what is occurring within the helping contact. Trainees gain insight into what they bring to the session that may affect the outcome. Burnout is a problem in any helping profession and it is a major problem in a crisis setting where the helper does not often have an opportunity to see the final outcome of their intervention. The contact with the client may only be a ten to twenty minute telephone conversation and the interaction lacks sufficient closure for the counselor. In their chapter on Identifying and Responding to Burnout, James Rogers and Barbara Medlock provide insight into the problem and helpful suggestions for combating and treating burnout in crisis center staff. This book will be useful both in training crisis workers and as a university textbook . Frank Lavin was known as America's "Salesman-in-Chief" when he served as Under Secretary for International Trade at the U.S. Department of Commerce. In that capacity, he supervised U.S. export promotion activity and worked with over two thousand small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to develop their export strategies. He continues to work with companies on market entrance and international challenges as chairman of Edelman's Public Affairs Practice in the Asia Pacific Region. Recently he established Export Now (www.ExportNow.com) to help companies use the Internet to export to China. He previously served as the U.S. ambassador to Singapore and worked in banking and management positions in Asia after having served in the Reagan White House and NSC as well as the Commerce Department in both Bush administrations. Mr Lavin has written articles for the New York Times, the Washington Post, and the Wall Street Journal.

Peter S. Cohan is president of Peter S. Cohan & Associates, a management consulting and venture capital firm founded in 1994. Dolores Cannonâ€™s life of healing Hypnosis is nothing short of miraculous. Recently there has been much talk about whether Jesus really existed as a historical figure, whether there were more than one "Jesus", or whether the Jesus story might simply be a legend. Well, this book might change your mind. (I have not yet read "Jesus and the Essenes"). As usual, Dolores does painstaking research before writing about the past-life memories of her two regression subjects and actually writing up what they told her under deep hypnosis. I became totally convinced that Jesus of Nazareth existed -- but as both a more "elevated" person than written about in the Bible as well as more down to earth too. Naomi sees golden light around his head and round his heart and healing hands. He has mesmerising, kind blue eyes -- a rarity among Jews. He's gentle but firm, extremely charismatic, and psychic. He is so obviously a highly evolved soul who has brought more of his spirit energy to earth than probably any other human being. So on one hand, in these "reminiscences" he is pictured as more human that we generally believe, but he is also to those following his footsteps and believing in his teachings, an exalted human being. I admit that having been doubtful about Jesus of Nazareth as a person, I have now become convinced that he did exist. I cannot help believing in the past life memories of these two women. One thing though: he was not the son of God. He tried to teach that we are all children of God, and that we could have his powers ... but of course that is not so easily achieved! Also, he did not always completely heal the sick. Sometimes he could only bring relief from pain and suffering, especially when it was that person's time to go. He did make use of the help of the physicians of the time as well. But what a shining spirit! A book worth reading and making up your own mind.

I found this book fascinating. I started with Dolores Cannon's later books, which cover a lot of material that is difficult for me to relate to--very esoteric, beyond my day-to-day experience--although very interesting. I am actually finding her books about past Earth lives more compelling, because there is something to which I can directly relate. I read "Jesus and the Essenes" and "They Walked with Jesus" over a couple of days--not necessarily just in that order, or without jumping from one to the other, as I tend to do. So much of this resonated with me. I had long rejected the stories of Jesus that were taught to me in my childhood. I couldn't accept that he was a "God" different from the rest of humanity. That didn't make any sense. What was the point of the crucifiction in that case? Why not just wave the magic wand and make everything better? My best--and only--understanding of the crucifiction had come from a Buddhist perspective: that Jesus was a Master who died a horrible death to demonstrate once and for all that nothing we could do could kill the light (the eternal God-spark) within. But Jesus' detractors, those who would destroy this message to maintain control of the rest of humanity, had a quick and easy fix. They would make Jesus a "God", like the Roman gods, virgin birth and everything. That way nobody else could follow his example, because they weren't as powerful as he was--after all, he was the ONLY son of God. Done and over with. It amazed me how through the centuries people bought this story, willing to give up their own spark-of-God identity, because Jesus was the ONLY son of God. They even attacked people who believed otherwise, just as the Romans and Jewish leaders were willing to attack Jesus who dared to suggest that everyone had the power within. These "Christians" could just go on in their selfish ways, and as long as they claimed to be followers of Jesus, he would save them in the end and lift them up into Heaven, destroying everybody else with his mighty sword. Now, finally, a first-hand view of the life of Jesus that makes sense, that holds together. When arriving at the new estate, Kristal is introduced to Frau Baxter, her new governess. At dinner, it is explained to her that though she is nineteen, she is to be fiercely disciplined by the domineering woman. Kristal finds herself very drowsy after dinner and lets Frau Baxter lead her to her rooms for sleep. Groggily the next morning, she wakes to find she has been completely bound to her bed by her wrists, neck and ankles. Shrieking and sobbing, Kristal is inconsolable. The worst, however, is when Frau Baxter explains that this is indeed part of her “correction” and she is now completely under her control.

After a harrowing first day, where she is stripped of all hair, force fed a gluey mush substance, is encased in her Initial Training Ensemble and sent to the “Contemplation Chamber”, Kristal is frantic and cannot understand why her father would do this to her. Little does she know that this first part will be the easiest.
